Motorola RAZR i – High-Tech Meets Heavy-Duty

You cannot talk about mobile phones without mentioning the brand Motorola, as they are among the dinosaurs of this field. Their phones were always stylish (remember the Motorola V3?), innovative and maybe a little bit different from what’s out there. Just by looking at the specs of the RAZR i we’re pretty confident that this is no exception.

We’ll start with a little arguable feature of the Motorola RAZR i – its edge-to-edge display. We have to admit the display itself is quite big, measuring 4.3 inches, and it does stretch very close to the side edges, but a 2-3 millimetre frame is still present, so the display is not exactly edge-to-edge in the true sense of the expression. Nevertheless, its big size, qHD resolution and decent pixel density (256 ppi) make it an impressive display.

Solid is the word of the day with the RAZR i, as the phone comes heavily protected: Gorilla Glass on the display, Kevlar plating on the rear and an aircraft-grade aluminium frame surrounding it all. The result is a phone that’s not prone to scratches, scrapes and liquid spills, which we find to be a good combination considering that people are getting clumsier by the day (ourselves included).

More impressive than the outside of the phone is its inside, as the Motorola RAZR i hides a pleasant surprise on the hardware side. We’re talking about an Intel Atom processor with an operating frequency of 2.0 GHz, making the phone very agile and quick. We were impressed with the responsiveness of the menus and just how quick applications loaded. Motorola advertises that the phone can launch the camera application in less than 1 second and we’re happy to confirm that the statement is true – the camera does indeed launch instantly.

On the software side we find the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system packed in with all the essential Google applications such as the Google Chrome web browser, Google Maps and many more. Additional apps can be easily downloaded via the Google Play Store.

Overall, the Motorola RAZR i packs in all the essential features you would expect to find in a high-end smartphone, adding the special building materials that transform it into a technological jewellery – the type of jewellery men love.
