Medion ERAZER X6823 Review – Get in the Game

Medion is not a stranger here at Dealizon as we’ve had several Medion laptops in for reviews and none of them disappointed us so far. Today we have the Medion ERAZER X6823 in for a spin and, by the looks of it, we’ve got a feeling that we’re in for a treat.

Ready, set, GO!

Visual Inspection

Unlike the Novatech N1526 we reviewed recently, the Medion ERAZER X6823 managed to impress us right from the first second with its angled lid edges – a feature that made our thoughts fly to a certain exotic supercar. Besides this little design anomaly, the laptop looks quite harmless, without betraying its gaming nature too much.

The lid has a metallic finish on its entire surface and the ERAZER logo is engraved on it. On the bottom side we found the first clear clue that we’re dealing with a gaming machine: the ERAZER X6823 comes with a single large cover that, once removed, provides access to the inner components, allowing for an easy RAM or HDD upgrade.

Things got a lot more interesting when we opened the lid as the angled frame that surrounds the display, the thin chrome bezel around the power button and the subtle angled influences around the touchpad confirmed one thing: the Medion ERAZER X6823 was clearly inspired by the design of the Lamborghini Aventador. Let’s see if the Medion is as fast as the supercar it got its design from.

The Medion ERAZER X6823 packs in some very impressive hardware under its hood, namely an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7-3630QM quad-core processor, 16GB of DDR3 RAM memory, two hard drives (750GB mechanical HDD + 128GB solid state drive) and, the cherry on top, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX670M graphics card. If you think the specs are impressive on paper, you should see them at work; we were lucky enough to have this opportunity.

Putting it short, there’s nothing that can stop the Medion ERAZER X6823; the operating system boots in just a few seconds and applications start almost instantly, a big merit for this going to that high-speed solid state drive.

We were especially interested in the gaming segment so we put the ERAZER to the test with all the latest titles and the laptop proved that we were right when we said that there’s nothing that can stop it, managing to perform surprisingly well under heavy stress. There was literally no game that could put the ERAZER X6823 to shame, the machine being able to run everything we tested in high or ultra-high detail settings. Hitman: Absolution, Far Cry III, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, World of Tanks and Guild Wars 2 are just a few of the titles we tested and each and every one of them worked impeccably with detail settings set to high.

Overall, we were very impressed with the gaming performance of the Medion ERAZER X6823.

General Use – Impressions

In order to be as objective as possible, besides gaming performance we also put the Medion ERAZER X6823 to the test for general usage purposes because, after all, we’re talking about a machine that’s supposed to do much more than just run games.

As expected, we didn’t encounter any problems when we tried running various software programs, even in extreme multitasking conditions, indicating that the Intel Core i7 CPU and the 16GB of system RAM make a good team.

In the multimedia sector, the machine also scored good points, movies looking superb on the 15.6-inch Full HD display. The machine comes with a Blu-ray drive so watching high-definition content is as easy and convenient as it can be. On the audio side the laptop comes with a 2.1 audio system that did a decent job. Our expectations weren’t set very high because we have yet to find the laptop speakers that will blow us away with their volume or sound quality, but in normal usage conditions the ERAZER’s speakers delivered exactly the right combination of volume and quality.

A pleasant surprise came from the portability side, the laptop being sufficiently light to be easily carried around and the 9-cell battery managed to deliver an above average battery life of around 4-5 hours in normal usage conditions – not bad for a portable high-end gaming machine.

We think that the review speaks for itself when it comes to what the Medion ERAZER X6823 is really capable of but, just in case you’ve missed it, we’ll tell you once again that the laptop is an impressive high-end mobile gaming machine so, if you’re looking for an easy-to-carry power beast, you’ve found it!
