If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get a new TV, this is it! Direct.asda.com rolls out an awesome offer on a gigantic 46-inch Luxor P46LCD12 TV, offering it for only £299, which makes it one of the cheapest big screen TVs you can find. It only comes with the basic features of a TV, such as a Full HD-capable display and a Freeview HD integrated tuner, but even so, it’s still the best pick for TV enthusiasts who just want a quality TV without a ton of fancy features and a spicy price.

Luxor P64LCD12 TV Review – Where “Big” Meets “Cheap”

We have to admit that we were a bit sceptical when we’ve first heard about this TV, because it’s not everyday that you stumble upon a 46-inch monster TV with a price tag below £300. Still, we didn’t want to judge a product by its price so we waited until we had the TV in our hands before drawing conclusions.

We’ll start with the exterior of the TV, where Luxor did a very good job in terms of build quality, as the TV feels solid and the looks don’t quite disappoint either. It’s not as elegant as a Samsung or an LG but it’s not even intended to be, these brands competing in a whole different category.

It’s a known fact that people who look for a budget TV don’t care too much about looks, being more interested in image quality, so we’ve got good news for them: the Luxor P64LCD12 comes with an impressive image quality. High-definition content looked above our expectation on the 46-inch screen, with very few visible differences when compared to high-end TVs. Except for a little motion blur that appeared occasionally when displaying high-speed scenes, the Luxor P64LCD12 delivered a good overall image quality, with realistic colours and uniform brightness, even though the TV is not lit by LEDs, but rather by traditional cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL). When standing very close to the TV, the image doesn’t look very sharp, but we truly doubt that anybody will actually try to watch TV from 2 feet away.

The TV is not a SMART TV, so Internet connectivity and all the related features are absent, but that’s understandable, given its price. Still, we would have loved to see such features implemented, because browsing the Internet on a 46-inch screen is always a fun experience. Any of smart TV sticks listed here will solve the problem for this TV and any other HDTV that doesn’t come with Internet support, so there’s still hope in this field as well.

Until then, you can enjoy HD channels via the built-in Freeview HD tuner or by hooking up a Blu-ray player or other devices via one of the 4 HDMI ports. Expanding the horizons even more is the USB port which allows the connection of an external hard drive, giving you plenty of options for running your own content.

Overall, the Luxor P64LCD12 is a good pick if you’re just looking for a TV that does what it’s intended to do – delivering good images.
