Lenovo S300 Notebook Overview

Lenovo may have hit a jackpot with their S300 ultra-portable notebook because it managed to combine 3 factors that many people look for in a notebook: portability, performance and costs. The 13.3-inch screen size and reduced weight tick the first box on the checklist while the decently powerful hardware ticks the second box. Last but not least, by opting for a low-end Sandy Bridge processor and no SSD, as you normally find in ultrabooks, Lenovo managed to tick the “cost” box as well.

Don’t get frightened by the “low-end Sandy Bridge processor” part because there’s no need to: the processor, a dual-core Intel Pentium B987 processor running at 1.5GHz, is almost as fast as an Intel Core i3 processor so, unless you plan to do some processor-intensive tasks such as video encoding, you shouldn’t have any problems. We put the notebook to the test with daily activities and we were happy with the results, the machine coping well with web browsing, multimedia and even some light gaming; the 4GB of RAM allowed for some multitasking as well, making the machine a good pick for casual users.

The main attraction of the Lenovo S300 remains its aspect: an ultrabook-like slim design that makes it look quite exquisite. A weight of only 1.8kg and a battery capable of keeping the machine alive for approximately 5 hours complete the menu, making the Lenovo S300 one attractive choice for its price.
