Furrion FEFS42L1D 42-inch LED TV Review – Big, Cheap, Furrion

We’ve had quite a lot of budget TVs in for reviews lately here at Dealizon UK so we can safely say that we got the hang of it by this point, knowing what are the common ups and downs of budget TVs. Still, we try to be as unbiased as possible, always giving new budget products the benefit of the doubt. That being said, let’s see what the Furrion FEFS42L1D is capable of.

We’ll start with the design, where the TV failed to impress us for one single reason – we felt that the design of the TV itself and the design of the TV stand are from two different worlds. Let us be more specific: the TV frame is simple, straight and sober, while the stand is curvy, glossy and has a cheap aspect. Maybe it’s just us or maybe Furrion went a bit too far into the extremes – we don’t know; what we do know is that the end-result could have been better.

We left the design issues aside and we put the TV to the test to see how well it does its job; we are happy to say that the performance of the TV left us with a very good impression. We tested several types of content but only when we played a high-definition Blu-ray disc did the TV show its real value, delivering crispy clear images and beautiful colours. One noticeable advantage over other budget TVs is the 120HZ motion rate which eliminates motion blur completely; we put this to the test by watching a soccer game and we can confirm that images were fluent and clear with no blur whatsoever.

A curiosity of the Furrion FEFS42L1D is represented by the reduced number of HDMI ports, the TV only coming with 2 ports, something that’s a bit of an inconvenience considering that we’re talking about a 42-inch TV that’s prone to be used with multiple signal sources such as Blu-ray players or gaming consoles. On the connectivity side we also found a USB port which, besides its classical playback functionality also offers PVR functionality, allowing you to record all your favourite shows. The PVR via USB is starting to become a standard feature in budget TVs, as we’ve seen it in most budget TVs we reviewed lately.

The Furrion FEFS42L1D has one serious drawback – sound. Even though the TV comes with two 10W speakers, the sound quality is far from acceptable if you’re looking for a decent cinematic experience, the integrated speakers only being good enough for listening to news, at most.

The bottom line is that the Furrion FEFS42L1D is a good TV, despite the fact that it belongs to the budget category. It comes with good image quality and plenty of features but the audio and design segments could use some improvements.
